About

Ibn Haldun University’s Department of Philosophy subscribes to a profoundly holistic and problem-oriented approach to philosophy’s history and problems. We teach and discuss philosophical issues across a broad spectrum, bringing our students into contact with Ancient Greek and the Far East, Islamic, Turkish and Western Continental and Analytical philosophical traditions. To achieve this, we use a three-language policy where international students learn both Modern Turkish and Arabic before they complete their program. Our students can choose some other classical language in place of Arabic to support their academic studies.

Our department supports and encourages undergraduate students to do a double major with the field of interest.

We use a comparative approach in our department by opening comparative courses and offering courses from a wide range of different traditions. Our department values both the history of philosophy and systematic philosophy. We are particularly strong in Islamic Philosophy, and we also follow the contemporary trends and problems in the global scene, offering courses in cutting-edge issues.

Academically rigorous and intellectually diverse, the department is dedicated to training students of strong moral fiber who embrace the challenge to be distinctive, critical, socially responsible, and committed to peace and justice in their personal and social lives.

Our primary aim is to train future academics and researchers who can participate in the global academic debates and provide original contributions to the field. Besides pursuing academic careers, Graduates of the Department are expected to be well-placed for high school teaching, working in non-governmental organizations, human resource departments, advertising, or publishing.
