The workshops titled "Muslim-Christian Reflections on Philosophy, Science and Religion" were held on March 4 - 5, 2024 at Süleymaniye Campus with the contributions of Our Rector Prof. Atilla Arkan and participants from Singapore, USA, India, Bangladesh and different countries.
On the first day of the event, organized under the direction of Prof. Kelly James Clark and Assoc. Prof. Enis Doko from the Department of Philosophy, Prof. Clark presented "God and Love in Muslim - Christian Traditions" and Frederick Choo and Esther Choo from Rutgers University presented "Kavka's Toxin Puzzle and Conditional Intentions." The workshop continued with student presentations. Selen Fettahoğlu, our Research Assistant in the Department of Philosophy, who is currently pursuing her PhD at the Middle East Technical University, presented "Is The Theistic Understanding of ImMortal Life Preferable?" and "Forms and Meanings: What Does Avicenna’s Distinction Provide for Memory?" by Ebrar Akdeniz from Medeniyet University and "The Epistemic Value of Natural Theology" by Ataollah Hashemi from St. Louis University.
The second day of the workshop started with the presentation of Cansu İrem Meriç from Middle East Technical University on "Reconciling Descartes' Mind-Body Distinction with Embodied Cognition". Mosaddek Billah from 29 May University presented "Scheiermacher's Approach to Religious Language, Experience and Feelings: The Formative Thought of Modern Liberal Theology" by Mosaddek Billah from 29 May University and Esther Choo from Rutgers University presented "When Friendship and Moral Norms Conflict" and Naseef C from Ibn Haldun University presented "Contextualizing Al - Farabi's Political Thoughts on the Virtuous City".
The workshop "Muslim-Christian Reflections on Philosophy, Science and Religion" has ended with Saeed Pk Poonoor’s presentation named "Philosophical Discourses on Epistemology in Taftazani's Sharh al-Aqaid: Ilmu'l-Kalam and the Construction of Authority in al-Kalam", from Aligarh Muslim University, India.
